Cleveland Charge Acquire Victor Oladipo
In an important move for their roster, the Cleveland Charge, affiliated with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the G League, have acquired veteran guard Victor Oladipo. The transaction was confirmed on the G League’s official board.
Details of the Trade
Oladipo, who was once the second overall selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, joins the Charge after playing for the Wisconsin Herd. To facilitate this trade, the Charge have sent players Jacob Gilyard and Drake Jeffries, along with 2026 second-round and international draft picks, to Wisconsin.
Oladipo’s Performance and Health Concerns
During his time with the Herd this season, Oladipo has averaged 14 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists across 26 games, although his playing time has been moderated to roughly 28.7 minutes per game due to ongoing concerns regarding his health. Injuries have plagued Oladipo throughout his career, particularly significant leg and knee injuries, including a severe ruptured quadriceps, which he re-injured, and a torn Achilles tendon, leading to a cautious approach from his teams.
Recent Career Highlights
His last outing in the NBA came during the playoffs in 2023 when he played 19 minutes for the Miami Heat. After that season, Oladipo was unable to participate as he focused on recovering from his Achilles injury. His contract changed hands several times, ultimately leading to his release by the Memphis Grizzlies nearly two years ago. He even spent a brief period playing in the Chinese Basketball Association with the Guangzhou Loong Lions.
Looking Ahead
Now, with the Charge, Oladipo joins another former high draft pick, Killian Hayes, who has been impressively productive with averages of 24.6 points and 7.7 assists per game. The Charge have a reputation for rejuvenating players and providing them with opportunities to advance to the NBA, and it appears that Oladipo is poised to be the next to seize this chance as he aims for a comeback to the league.
