Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Riley Minix to Fill Final Two-Way Contract

Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Riley Minix to Two-Way Contract

In a significant move to solidify their roster, the Cleveland Cavaliers have officially signed Riley Minix to a two-way contract, filling their final two-way position. This decision comes shortly after the Cavaliers secured Nae’Qwan Tomlin under a standard contract. Reports from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype confirm the deal, noting that Minix has enjoyed a successful season in the G League, where he has averaged an impressive 17.5 points per game while shooting 51.2% from the floor, including 42.6% from beyond the arc.

Minix’s Professional Journey

The 25-year-old forward, standing at 6 feet 7 inches, previously went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft but caught the attention of the San Antonio Spurs. He began his professional career with them, landing a two-way deal but saw limited action in the NBA, appearing in just four games over two seasons. Most of his time was spent with the Austin Spurs, the team’s G League affiliate, where he showcased his skills.

This season, his journey took another turn when he was waived by the Spurs on December 12, following a brief stint on a two-way contract. Fortunately for Minix, on January 13, the Cleveland Charge, the G League affiliate for the Cavaliers, acquired his returning player rights from Austin, allowing him to join their lineup. Since then, he has played 12 games and maintained solid performance metrics, demonstrating both scoring prowess and versatility on the court.

Key Skills and Performance

Minix’s three-point shooting ability has been particularly eye-catching; he was able to convert 41.4% from distance while averaging over seven attempts per game last season with Austin. His ability to shoot from the perimeter will be crucial if he aims to make a lasting impression in the NBA.

Collegiate Background

Before embarking on his professional career, Minix had an unconventional collegiate journey, playing four years at Southeastern University, an NAIA program, followed by a standout season at Morehead State, where he recorded averages of 20.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

With this new deal, he joins fellow players Tristian Enaruna and Emanuel Miller in a two-way capacity with the Cavaliers, providing the team with additional depth and scoring options as they look ahead in the season.
