Clemson Triumphs Over Georgia Tech 77-63 with Solid Second Half Performance

Clemson Tigers Secure Victory Over Georgia Tech

In a decisive victory, the No. 18 ranked Clemson Tigers notched a 77-63 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday, rebounding from their first defeat in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this season. Both Jake Wahlin and Nick Davidson contributed significantly to the scoreline, each finishing the match with 13 points.

Improved Performance in the Second Half

Clemson showcased dramatic improvement in their three-point shooting, transforming a dismal first-half performance into a remarkable second half. After connecting on just 25% of their long-range attempts before halftime, the Tigers surged to 58.3% in the latter period, hitting 7 out of 12 three-point shots. A pivotal moment came late in the game when Jestin Porter nailed a step-back three-pointer with just over a minute remaining, effectively sealing the victory for Clemson.

Wahlin, who had struggled in the first half, made a comeback by sinking all three of his three-point attempts after halftime, showcasing his ability under pressure. In addition to his scoring, he also grabbed eight rebounds and executed a powerful dunk as openings developed in Georgia Tech’s defense.

Georgia Tech’s Late Push

Despite trailing by as much as 16 points in the game, Georgia Tech made a late push, with Kam Craft’s three-pointer narrowing the score to 71-63 within two minutes left on the clock. However, the Yellow Jackets could not bridge the gap.

Kowacie Reeves Jr. emerged as Georgia Tech’s top scorer with 19 points, yet the team struggled overall, with only one other player reaching double digits and finishing the game with a field-goal percentage of just 37%. Clemson saw contributions from other key players as well, including Ace Buckner and Dillon Hunter, both of whom added 12 points to the team’s tally.

Looking Ahead

Clemson’s previous outing culminated in an overtime loss to NC State, but Saturday’s triumph should help solidify their position within the Associated Press Top 25 rankings for another week. The Tigers took control of the game in the first half after a strong 12-0 run propelled them into a 30-23 lead. Georgia Tech briefly overtook them with Chas Kelly’s three-pointer, leading to a tight 35-33 halftime score after Hunter landed a contested three-pointer just before the break, foreshadowing their second-half performance.

Looking ahead, Clemson will have a week off to prepare for their next match against Pittsburgh, while Georgia Tech is set to face Virginia Tech on Tuesday night.
