Clément Lenglet Signs with Atlético Madrid
Clément Lenglet has officially signed with Atlético Madrid after finalizing the termination of his contract with FC Barcelona. The seasoned defender, formerly on loan at Atlético last season, has committed to a three-year deal with the La Liga club, where he will reunite with coach Diego Simeone.
As part of his transition, Lenglet is poised to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup set to take place in the United States this summer.
Club World Cup Registration
In anticipation of this prestigious tournament, an additional player registration period has been established, allowing teams to finalize their rosters between June 1 and June 10. All transactions must be concluded by 7 p.m. BST / 2 p.m. ET on the final day, Tuesday.
Career Highlights
At 29 years old, Lenglet was acquired by Barcelona from Sevilla in 2018 for a fee exceeding €30 million (approximately $34.2 million) and has since made over 100 appearances for the Catalan giants. However, he has spent recent seasons on loan at various clubs, including stints in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
His performances at Atlético last season were impressive, making 34 appearances, which led to the club’s decision to pursue a permanent acquisition.
International Career
Representing France, Lenglet has earned 16 international caps and was part of the squad that participated in the recent Nations League final four.
Upcoming Matches
With his integration into the Atlético lineup, he will join his teammates to gear up for their Club World Cup matches. Atlético Madrid is set to kick off their campaign against the reigning European Champions, Paris Saint-Germain, on Sunday, followed by encounters with Seattle Sounders and Brazilian club Botafogo in Group B.
