Belfast-Born Basketball Player CJ Fulton
CJ Fulton, a basketball player from Belfast, is set to rejoin the Minnesota Timberwolves this September as he prepares for the upcoming NBA season. After participating in the Summer League in July, where he contributed four minutes to the Timberwolves’ 89-85 victory over the Phoenix Suns, Fulton earned his spot among a select group of Irish-born players to play at this level, joining the ranks of Pat Burke and Susan Moran.
Training with the Timberwolves
Although Fulton has yet to secure a contract with the Timberwolves, his performance in Las Vegas was noteworthy enough to warrant an invitation to train with the team’s full roster, which boasts All-Star player Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves, who reached the Western Conference Finals two consecutive times, are gearing up for six exhibition matches—including a game against China’s Guangzhou Loong Lions—before they kick off their regular season against the Denver Nuggets on October 27.
College Career and Future Aspirations
The 22-year-old, who previously played for Lafayette and Charleston in college, averaged 7.8 points and 6.5 assists during his final year of college ball. While Fulton was not selected during the NBA draft in June, he continues to pursue his ambition of playing in the league. Alternatives like the G-League or a professional position in Europe remain viable options, but making it onto an NBA roster is still his ultimate aim.
“Achieving my NBA dream would be extremely significant,” Fulton expressed enthusiastically.
