Chris Eubank Jr. Fined for Social Media Misuse
The British Boxing Board of Control has imposed a £10,000 ($14,000) penalty on boxer Chris Eubank Jr. for inappropriate use of social media. This fine follows an incident where footage surfaced on various platforms showing Eubank Jr. reportedly utilizing a sauna to shed weight ahead of his match against Conor Benn in April.
Match Outcome and Health Concerns
Although he ultimately triumphed over Benn by points decision, Eubank Jr. was hospitalised afterward for precautionary measures. While the board did not penalize him for the sauna incident itself, they cited a breach of Regulation 25 related to social media misuse, leading to the substantial fine announced by the Southern Area Council.
Additional Penalties and Criticism
In addition to the social media penalty, Eubank Jr. faced criticism for his tardiness to the official weigh-in and has received a formal reprimand from the Southern Area Council. Prior to the bout, he had difficulties with weight management, initially weighing in at 160.2 pounds, exceeding the limit, before marginally reducing to 160.05 pounds on his second attempt leading up to the fight. Consequently, he was also fined £375,000 for failing to meet the weight requirements, although he did comply with the 10-pound rehydration limit set for the day of the contest.
Upcoming Fight
Looking ahead, Eubank Jr. is scheduled to face Conor Benn once more on September 20 in London, with the venue still pending confirmation.
