Chisora and Whyte Set for December Showdown as Rivalry Intensifies

Chisora vs. Whyte: A Rivalry Rekindled

The anticipated bout between heavyweights Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte is officially being lined up for December, reigniting their rivalry after a brief reunion during the recent Joseph Parker versus Fabio Wardley matchup. The duo has a shared history in the ring, previously engaging in two intense encounters in 2016 and 2018, with Whyte emerging victorious by a split decision in their first clash and then decisively winning by stoppage in the 11th round during their second bout.

Current Form and Records

Now, at the age of 41, Chisora boasts a record of 36 wins and 13 losses. Recently, he has been in impressive form, having recorded three consecutive victories against notable opponents: Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce, and Otto Wallin. In contrast, Whyte, currently at 31 wins and 4 losses, is keen to rebound from a shocking first-round knockout at the hands of heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma earlier this year.

Statements from the Fighters

During the DAZN broadcast of the Parker-Wardley event, Chisora expressed his eagerness to fight again, mentioning,

“If the contract is right, yes, but right now it’s not.”

Their conversation about a potential upcoming matchup was interrupted by American heavyweight Jarrell Miller, who joined them lively after the earlier face-off between Itauma, Agit Kabayel, David Adeleye, and Lawrence Okolie.

Chisora encouraged Whyte in a competitive spirit, suggesting other heavyweights to face off against if they weren’t aligned to fight each other. Following that, he hinted at a definite plan for a December clash, asserting,

“I want the fight, it’s going to be in December, 100 percent, it’s going to be an explosive fight.”

Whyte, however, emphasized the need for a lucrative agreement, stating,

“Yes, I want the fight, but the paper has to be right. I take any fight on, regardless, I show up and give my all. I don’t give a f about a contract; I love fighting, give the fans the fights they want. When it’s done, it’s done; time waits for no man.”

Promoter Insights and Future Plans

Chisora’s last match, where he defeated Wallin, only escalates the expectations for this trilogy fight, which boxing promoter Frank Warren has echoed, promising fans an entertaining bout. Earlier this week, David Haye, a former boxing champion, hinted at a planned December 13 meeting in Manchester, which he claimed was confirmed with Chisora.

He stated,

“It’s confirmed. He’s buzzing. They agreed terms like gentlemen, everyone’s happy with the split, and it’s going to be a fun one.”

In discussions of their financial agreement, Haye suggested a 50/50 split with 60% going to the winner and 40% to the loser, which he believes is a fair arrangement.
