Chicago Blackhawks Roster Updates
The Chicago Blackhawks are taking steps to establish consistent player lineups as they finally boast a fully healthy roster. This marks a significant shift for the team, as players have faced numerous injuries for some time. Teuvo Teravainen, who had been in recovery, participated in Monday’s practice wearing a regular contact jersey, indicating his readiness to return to action.
Formation of the “Fifth Line”
In an interesting development, a so-called “fifth line” comprised of Colton Dach, Sam Lafferty, and Nick Lardis was formed—perhaps to provide additional depth ahead of an upcoming road trip. However, the presence of three forwards on this line suggested changes were imminent in the roster structure.
Nick Lardis Reassigned
“Later that day, the Blackhawks officially communicated that Nick Lardis would be the player reassigned.”
While this decision was influenced by team dynamics, it wasn’t purely based on his performance. Lardis had amassed five goals and two assists—totaling seven points—over 21 games with Chicago. His call-up was initially a response to Connor Bedard’s injury, along with Frank Nazar’s absence, highlighting his temporary importance to the offensive lineup.
Despite having opportunities to score during his NHL stint, it seems he would benefit more from extended game time in the AHL. With the Blackhawks’ top six players returning to health, there’s less opportunity for him in the NHL.
Future Prospects for Lardis
Before this, Lardis played 24 games for the Rockford IceHogs this season, where he excelled with 26 points (13 goals and 13 assists). This next chapter in the AHL is viewed as a strategic move for Lardis to further develop his skills, particularly as the IceHogs prepare to host the AHL All-Star event during the NHL’s Olympic break.
His mindset, characterized by a strong dedication to winning and a willingness to do what it takes to support his team, positions Lardis as a promising young talent. There is a consensus that he may return to the NHL sooner rather than later—potentially before the season concludes—not just to solidify his career, but to continue contributing to the Blackhawks’ success.
