Chicago Blackhawks’ Frank Nazar Out Four Weeks After Facial Injury in Ottawa Loss

Injury Setbacks for the Chicago Blackhawks

In a disappointing turn for the Chicago Blackhawks, they faced yet another injury setback during their recent 6-4 defeat to the Ottawa Senators. Frank Nazar, an emerging talent, was forced to leave the game early after a shot from Senators defenseman Jordan Spence struck him in the face just five minutes into the first period. Coach Jeff Blashill provided a brief update on Nazar’s condition, revealing he is expected to miss about four weeks as he recovers from the injury.

Coach’s Comments on the Incident

Blashill commented on the incident, stating, “You saw the play. He got hit right in the face.”

This injury adds to the Blackhawks’ struggles, as superstar Connor Bedard, who leads the team with 19 goals and 25 assists, has already been sidelined with a right shoulder injury for four games and is likely out until early January.

Captain’s Absence and Team Depth

Additionally, Captain Nick Foligno has not participated in a game since November 15 due to a hand injury, though a return may be on the horizon. Reflecting on the team’s current situation, Blashill emphasized the importance of depth and consistency:

“Our depth is getting tested. As you play more minutes in more important roles, you’ve got to play that much better. It’s a challenge. And it’s not easy.”

Nazar’s Impact and Recent Performance

Nazar, who was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft and signed a seven-year extension in August, has made an impact with six goals and 15 assists over 33 games this season. The Blackhawks found themselves tied at three goals each with the Senators after two periods, but ultimately succumbed to a strong performance from David Perron, who scored two goals in the third, sealing Chicago’s fifth consecutive defeat.

Current Struggles

This latest loss leaves the Blackhawks struggling with a record of 3-11-2 in their past 16 outings.
