Chicago Blackhawks Elevate Two Young Talents from AHL

Chicago Blackhawks Call Up Korchinski and Commesso

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their roster, the Chicago Blackhawks have decided to bring up defenseman Kevin Korchinski and goaltender Drew Commesso from their AHL team, the Rockford IceHogs.

Korchinski’s Performance

Korchinski, selected seventh overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, has been honing his skills in the AHL throughout this season. In 32 appearances for Rockford in the 2025-26 season, he has accumulated 19 points, consisting of two goals and 17 assists, although he currently holds a minus-12 rating. This follows a previous season where he tallied three goals and 24 assists over 56 games but struggled with a minus-17 rating.

As he joins the Blackhawks, there is keen interest in how Korchinski can translate his AHL performance into success at the NHL level. In his brief NHL career, he has played 92 games, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists, totaling 17 points.

Commesso’s Goaltending Stats

On the goaltending front, Commesso has played 19 games with Rockford this year, achieving a record of 6 wins, 11 losses, and 2 overtime losses, with a .909 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.72, including one shutout. He also had his first taste of NHL action last season, appearing in two games for the Blackhawks where he recorded a loss with a save percentage of .846 and a goals-against average of 3.36.

With this call-up, both Korchinski and Commesso will aim to make their mark in the Blackhawks’ lineup.
