Chelsea secures Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in £55 million deal

Chelsea Acquires Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund

In a major transfer move, Chelsea has reached an agreement to acquire English winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, as confirmed by the Bundesliga outfit on Thursday. The 20-year-old talent is expected to sign a lengthy contract lasting seven years, with the deal reportedly valued at £55 million, which translates to approximately $75 million.

Current Competitions

Currently, both Chelsea and Dortmund are competing in the United States for the Club World Cup, where they have advanced to the quarterfinals. This agreement was finalized in Fort Lauderdale, although discussions regarding Gittens’ salary are still ongoing.

Gittens’ Career Overview

Gittens began his football journey at Manchester City before joining Dortmund’s youth ranks in 2020. Since making his first-team debut in 2022, he has made 107 appearances for the German club, netting 17 goals. The previous season proved to be particularly fruitful for Gittens, as he scored 12 goals in 48 matches across all competitions, including four during the prestigious Champions League.

Lars Ricken, managing director at Borussia Dortmund, praised Gittens’ development, noting, “Jamie Gittens’s career underscores our ability to cultivate top talents at Borussia. We identified him early on and signed him for a nominal fee, providing him continuous growth opportunities within our youth performance centre and valuable first-team exposure. His loyalty and contribution have been commendable.”

Chelsea’s Strategic Moves

Chelsea’s acquisition comes as they seek to enhance their options on the left wing, particularly after choosing not to finalize Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Manchester United into a permanent deal. Gittens joins a list of notable signings for Chelsea this summer, which also includes Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and João Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion.
