Chelsea Defender Levi Colwill Faces Extended Recovery
Chelsea Football Club‘s defender Levi Colwill is set to face an extended period of recovery following a surgical procedure on his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). On Thursday, the club confirmed that the operation was successful after thorough medical examinations indicated that surgery was necessary to address the injury.
Injury Details
Colwill’s injury occurred during the first week of preseason training, just days after Chelsea triumphed over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final, a significant victory for the team. Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, expressed his worries during a press conference, revealing that the injury took place towards the end of the inaugural training session on Monday.
“He felt something, and we need to wait and see how serious it is,” Maresca stated, underlining the uncertainty regarding Colwill’s recovery timeframe.
He added:
“I spoke with him yesterday, and I want him to know that his contribution was critical to our achievements last year. He was an essential player for us.”
Colwill’s Impact on the Team
At just 22 years old, Colwill had a standout season for Chelsea, appearing in 43 matches across various competitions, helping the club secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and clinching titles in both the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup. As Chelsea navigates the upcoming season, his absence will be keenly felt by the squad, especially early in the campaign.
