Chelsea Collaborates with PFA on Handling of Sterling and Disasi’s Situations

Chelsea FC Collaborates with PFA on Player Situation

Sources have revealed that Chelsea Football Club is collaborating with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) to address the situation surrounding players Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi. Both athletes are currently training separately from the main squad, having been informed that they do not fit into the club’s future plans.

Player Contracts and Background

Raheem Sterling, who is 30 years old, has two years left on his five-year deal worth £47.5 million ($64.85 million) that he signed upon his move to Chelsea from Manchester City in July 2022. This transfer marked the beginning of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership era at Chelsea. Meanwhile, Axel Disasi, aged 27, joined Chelsea in August 2023 for £38.5 million from Monaco and has a contract extending until June 2029.

Loan Spells and Transfer Attempts

Both players spent last season on loans, with Sterling making 28 appearances for Arsenal and Disasi appearing in 10 matches for Aston Villa. Although there were attempts to transfer Sterling to clubs like Napoli and Bayern Munich this summer, the proposals did not appeal to the London-born player, who preferred to stay in the capital for family reasons. Consequently, both Sterling and Disasi remained at Stamford Bridge when the transfer window closed on September 1, 2023.

Support Measures and Future Prospects

As the prospect of reintegrating into Enzo Maresca’s squad appears increasingly unlikely, Chelsea and the PFA are taking measures to support Sterling and Disasi. They are now being provided with designated coaching personnel at the club’s Cobham training facility to ensure proper training and playing opportunities. These efforts also aim to facilitate their departures from Chelsea when the next transfer window opens in January.

ESPN reached out to Chelsea and the PFA for comment, but both entities declined to provide a statement.
