Charlotte Hornets Secure Charles Lee’s Future with Contract Extension Following Impressive Season

Charlotte Hornets Extend Contract with Head Coach Charles Lee

The Charlotte Hornets are set to continue their partnership with head coach Charles Lee by extending his contract, following a remarkable turnaround in his second season at the helm. Under Lee’s guidance, the team saw a significant 25-game improvement, ultimately finishing the season with a total of 44 victories, just a win shy of breaking a decade-long playoff drought.

General Manager’s Praise

Although specifics regarding the terms of his extension remain undisclosed, Hornets General Manager Jeff Peterson praised Lee’s leadership in a recent statement.

“Charles has made incredible strides in laying the groundwork for our team’s identity,”

Peterson remarked.

“Since his arrival, he and his coaching staff have prioritized player development, fostering a culture where players are dedicated to improvement. Lee has established an environment built on accountability, hard work, and professionalism, and I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts towards long-term success for the Hornets.”

Season Overview

After a rocky start to the season with a 4-14 record, exacerbated by injuries, Charlotte found its rhythm post-January 2, achieving a commendable 33-15 record. This strong finish, however, was overshadowed by a loss to Orlando in the second play-in game of the Eastern Conference, leaving the franchise to face the reality of being the team with the longest active playoff drought in the league.

Coaching Recognition

Additionally, during his tenure, Lee garnered recognition for his coaching prowess, earning his first Eastern Conference Coach of the Month title in January, during which the Hornets posted an 11-6 record and recorded one of the highest road point differentials ever in an NBA month (+151).
