Charges Dismissed for Ben Gordon
In Stamford, Connecticut, multiple charges against former NBA player Ben Gordon have been dismissed following his successful completion of a probation program designed to address his mental health struggles. This decision comes after an incident in 2023 where Gordon, notably a key figure in UConn’s 2004 NCAA championship win, exhibited erratic behavior at a local juice bar on the same day UConn celebrated its latest championship victory.
Incident and Arrest
Gordon, who is now 40, was arrested after police received reports from bystanders who described his aggressive and unusual actions. Officers arrived at the scene and, upon assessing the situation, deemed it necessary to restrain him. Following this troubling episode, he entered a court-approved probation program with the intent of seeking help for his mental health challenges.
Legal Representation and Mental Health Awareness
His attorney, Darnell Crosland, expressed pride in Gordon’s dedication to improving his mental health. Crosland emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and credited Gordon for providing him with insights on managing daily life stresses.
“The court recognized Ben’s commitment to reform, which led to the erasure of his charges from the public record,”
Crosland said.
“I feel fortunate to have represented such a remarkable individual.”
Gordon’s Mental Health Journey
Gordon’s battle with bipolar disorder and depression has been well documented, as these conditions have influenced several incidents over his life, including previous arrests. After being the third overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gordon experienced a successful eleven-year career, securing the NBA Sixth Man Award in his debut season and playing for various teams including the Detroit Pistons and the Orlando Magic.
