Cesc Fabregas discusses potential Lionel Messi move to Como, but reaffirms his happiness in the U.S.

Cesc Fabregas on Lionel Messi’s Future

Cesc Fabregas, serving as a coach, recently shared insights about Lionel Messi’s current satisfaction playing in the United States while also hinting at the potential for his former Barcelona teammate to one day join the Italian club, Como. The interest was reignited when Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, was seen attending a recent preseason match in Como with their three children, which fueled speculation about Messi’s future in the region.

Speculation and Friendship

During a press gathering before Como’s opening match in the Como Cup against Al Ahli, Fabregas stated,

“Never say never”

when asked about the likelihood of Messi playing for Como in the future. He mentioned that Antonela had just spent a week at his home during Messi’s short break from play, as he was scheduled for games in Cincinnati and New York.

The close friendship between Fabregas and Messi is evident, as both families have maintained strong ties, with their children growing up together. Following the preseason game against Lille, Fabregas conveyed to Como’s sporting director, Charly Ludi, that the presence of Messi’s children in Como makes the idea of Messi playing there more realistic, though he emphasized that Messi is currently “very happy in America,” calming any immediate concerns.

Current Contracts and Future Prospects

At 36 years old, Messi is currently in negotiations to renew his contract with Inter Miami, which is set to expire in December 2025. Meanwhile, Fabregas continues to lead Como, where he hopes to improve on their recent 10th-place finish in Serie A, under a contract that extends until June 2028.
