2025 ESPYS: A Celebration of Athletic Excellence
The highly anticipated 2025 ESPYS, sponsored by Capital One, are just around the corner, and fans have the opportunity to make their voices heard in the voting process to recognize this year’s standout athletes.
Nominees and Categories
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who recently celebrated an NBA championship win, is in the running for multiple prestigious awards, including Best Athlete in Men’s Sports and Best NBA Player, following his crowning achievements as the regular-season MVP and Finals MVP.
The Oklahoma City Thunder also secured a nomination for Best Team after their dramatic victory over the Indiana Pacers in a thrilling Game 7. In addition to Gilgeous-Alexander, other nominees include remarkable athletes who shone at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. Notable among them are Simone Biles and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, both contenders for Best Athlete in Women’s Sports.
Additionally, Ilona Maher and Ezra Frech have earned nominations in the categories of Best Breakthrough Athlete and Best Athlete with a Disability, respectively.
A’ja Wilson, who took home the titles for Best Athlete in Women’s Sports and Best WNBA Player in 2024, is back to compete in both categories this year. Meanwhile, NFL star Saquon Barkley is vying for recognition in three categories: Best Athlete in Men’s Sports, Best Play, and Best NFL Player. The only other NFL player joining Barkley in the nominations for both Best NFL Player and Best Athlete in Men’s Sports is Josh Allen, quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.
