Casper Ruud’s New Look
Casper Ruud recently made headlines with his dramatically shorter hairstyle. The Norwegian tennis player has opened up about the motivation behind this change.
ATP Finals and Alternate Role
After securing a spot as the second alternate for the 2025 ATP Finals, Ruud didn’t step onto the court since no players experienced injuries that would allow him to play. Alexander Bublik, who ranked just above him as the first alternate, also remained on the sidelines. Ruud’s eligibility for this position came as a result of Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal, which shifted him into the alternate role that would have otherwise gone to Lorenzo Musetti if Djokovic had participated.
Fan Reactions and Haircut Motivation
Fans first caught a glimpse of Ruud’s new haircut upon his arrival at the tournament. He had a playful interaction with fellow competitor Carlos Alcaraz, whose brother had gone for an even more extreme trim at the US Open earlier that year.
In an interview conducted by Elena Vesnina for BB Tennis, Ruud elaborated on his hairstyle decision, noting its practicality, particularly after spending time swimming during his holiday. He mentioned, “I thought it was better to just cut it because after like three seconds it is dry. So, that’s kind of why I did it. It’s just comfortable and practical, but I will probably let it grow back out, and in some months, it will be back to normal.”
Mixed reactions from fans flooded in online; while some appreciated the new look, others remained less enthusiastic, though many could not dispute its practical benefits.
