Carolina Hurricanes Extend Mark Jankowski’s Contract
The Carolina Hurricanes have extended forward Mark Jankowski‘s contract for an additional two years, committing to an average value of $1.85 million each season until 2028. This announcement came just two days following the team’s historic achievement as the first in the NHL to complete a sweep in the first two rounds of the playoffs, a milestone not seen since the league instituted a best-of-seven format for every round back in 1987.
Upcoming Playoff Challenges
Currently, the Hurricanes are poised to face the victor of the ongoing series between Montreal and Buffalo in the Eastern Conference finals, marking their third appearance in the postseason over the last four years.
General Manager’s Comments
General Manager Eric Tulsky expressed his satisfaction with the signing, noting Jankowski’s seamless integration into the team. “Mark has been an excellent fit for our organization throughout his time here. He’s proven he can contribute in different ways, and we are glad he’s chosen to remain with the organization,” he stated.
Player Performance
At 31 years old, Jankowski has established himself as a dependable participant on Carolina’s fourth line, accounting for an assist in eight playoff games. Notably, he has seen two of his goals negated by video review during the playoffs, including a disallowed overtime goal in Game 2 against Ottawa for offsides and another in Game 4 against Philadelphia due to goaltender interference involving teammate William Carrier.
Regular Season Stats
During the regular season, Jankowski posted 11 goals and 10 assists across 68 games. He originally joined the Hurricanes in a trade from Nashville in March 2025. With his contract secured, Jankowski remains a vital part of the team’s efforts as they pursue a deeper playoff run this season.
