Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic drawn together at ATP Finals; Sinner faces Zverev

ATP Finals Groupings Announced

The ATP Finals have unveiled their groupings, placing the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the same bracket as legendary player Novak Djokovic. Meanwhile, the reigning champion Jannik Sinner is slated to compete alongside Alexander Zverev. This year’s competition, set to kick off on Sunday, follows a round-robin format, with the two highest-scoring players from each group moving on to the semifinals, culminating in the championship match on November 16.

Group Breakdown

In the Jimmy Connors group, the four players competing are Alcaraz, Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur. The Bjorn Borg group, on the other hand, includes Sinner, Zverev, Ben Shelton, and either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti, who are currently in a duel for the last spot in that group. At present, Auger-Aliassime holds the eighth and final qualifying position, but Musetti has the chance to overtake him if he secures victory in an upcoming tournament in Athens.

Player Participation and Stakes

Djokovic’s participation remains uncertain; the Serbian star, who has claimed the ATP Finals title seven times, missed the event last year and has noted that his decision on competing will depend on his performance in Athens. For Alcaraz, this will mark his third appearance at the finals, having previously reached the semifinals in 2023. Both he and Sinner are in contention for the coveted year-end No. 1 ranking, which will ultimately be decided by their showings in this prestigious tournament.

Zverev, a two-time champion at the ATP Finals, won the title in both 2018 and 2021, while Fritz reached the finals last year only to be defeated by Sinner. De Minaur is returning for his second consecutive year, while Shelton will be making his first appearance at this high-stakes event.
