Cam Thomas’s Journey with the Brooklyn Nets
Cam Thomas, who spent four years with the Brooklyn Nets, had his journey with the team take an abrupt turn when he was waived after the trade deadline. The Nets had hopes when they re-signed him last summer, expecting him to become a primary scoring option while simultaneously enhancing his market value for a potential trade. Unfortunately, those plans did not materialize, reflecting a broader trend of inconsistency throughout his tenure in Brooklyn.
Transition to the Milwaukee Bucks
After the Nets opted not to trade him, Thomas found a new opportunity with the Milwaukee Bucks. During a return visit to New York to face the Knicks, he preferred to keep discussions about his former team to a minimum. However, in an interview with Stefan Bondy from The New York Post, he candidly expressed his feelings about Brooklyn. Thomas remarked,
“That’s just who they are. They don’t believe in nobody… I never asked. I don’t even care anymore. I’m on a different team.”
He further highlighted a sense of perpetual doubt surrounding him and suggested that the Nets were always in search of something they perceived as better, indicating a lack of faith in their existing roster.
Current Performance and Future Prospects
While the Nets pursue a major rebuild and strive to establish a stronger foundation with star players, Thomas found himself out of their immediate plans. Despite the ongoing roster changes, his absence has allowed the Nets to explore other options.
Since joining the Bucks, Thomas has been working to adapt to his new environment, averaging approximately 14 points per game. His shooting from beyond the arc, however, has been underwhelming at 27.7%. Although he had standout performances, scoring 34 points against Orlando and 27 points against New Orleans shortly after his arrival, his playing time and productivity have recently seen a decline. With free agency approaching this summer, Thomas will be looking to assert himself further and explore new opportunities beyond Milwaukee.
