Caleb Porter Out as Coach of New England Revolution Amidst Poor Season

New England Revolution Part Ways with Head Coach Caleb Porter

In a significant shakeup, the New England Revolution have parted ways with head coach Caleb Porter, appointing assistant Pablo Moreira as the interim manager for the remainder of the 2025 season. Porter’s departure comes on the heels of a disappointing tenure that began in December 2023, during which he recorded a lackluster regular season performance of 17 wins, 35 losses, and 12 draws.

Gratitude and Reflection

Sporting director Curt Onalfo expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Porter, stating,

“I am very grateful to Caleb Porter for the energy, effort, and dedication he has brought to the Revolution over the last two years. I have the utmost respect for Caleb and all the tireless work he’s invested in the club, and we wish him the best moving forward.”

Continued Struggles for the Revolution

The Revolution’s struggles continue, as they are likely to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive year, a situation exacerbated by Porter’s leadership. Although they are not yet officially out of contention, the team currently sits 10 points behind the Chicago Fire, who occupy the crucial ninth place in the standings, with only four games remaining.

Porter’s Coaching Legacy

Porter arrived in New England armed with a robust resume, having clinched two MLS Cup championships: first with the Portland Timbers in 2015 and again with the Columbus Crew in 2020. Additionally, he led the Crew to victory in the 2021 Campeones Cup against Cruz Azul, solidifying his reputation. Nevertheless, his managerial stint has been punctuated by inconsistencies, as evidenced by his time with both the Timbers and Crew; during his five seasons in Portland, the team failed to reach the playoffs twice, and during his four years with Columbus, they missed the postseason three times.

From College to Professional Coaching

Before ascending to professional coaching, Porter honed his skills at the collegiate level, leading the University of Akron men’s soccer team from 2006 to 2012, where he celebrated an NCAA championship in 2010. Porter’s journey reflects the diverse challenges and outcomes often faced in the competitive landscape of soccer management.
