In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, the 15th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers defeated Northwestern 70-66, thanks to a stellar performance from C.J. Cox, who scored 27 points, with 21 of those coming in a strong second half. His pivotal moment came with just 48 seconds left when he nailed a crucial three-pointer that secured Purdue’s lead in the tight game.

Cox showcased resilience, particularly in a face-off against Northwestern’s senior guard Nick Martinelli, who also excelled by scoring 28 points, including 19 in the second half of his final home game. Martinelli’s scoring milestone moved him into seventh place on Northwestern’s all-time scoring list, surpassing former player Bryant McIntosh.

The Boilermakers, now with a record of 23 wins and 7 losses overall (13-6 in Big Ten play), were in desperate need of a win after falling to defeat in their previous two outings and three of their last four games. Despite a shoulder injury, Trey Kaufman-Renn contributed significantly with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Fletcher Loyer added 10 points to the team’s efforts.
