Bulls Set to Play Spurs Without Josh Giddey Due to Ankle Injury

Chicago Bulls Face San Antonio Spurs Without Key Player

In Chicago, the Bulls are set to face the San Antonio Spurs on Monday without one of their key players, Josh Giddey, who is sidelined due to a sprained right ankle. Head coach Billy Donovan provided an update before the game, indicating that Giddey’s condition is assessed as day-to-day. However, he believes the injury should not be a long-term concern.

“We don’t think it’s anything too serious. He didn’t experience much swelling post-game on Saturday, and after receiving treatment yesterday, he only felt minor discomfort during shootaround today,” Donovan stated.

Injury Details and Impact

Giddey sustained the ankle injury during the third quarter of Saturday’s match against the Cleveland Cavaliers, when he fell after executing a crossover dribble against D’Andre Hunter. Although Giddey managed to complete the game, he struggled significantly, finishing with a 0-for-6 shooting performance and appeared to be favoring the injured ankle as the game progressed.

This matchup against the Spurs will mark the Bulls’ last game at home before embarking on a challenging four-game road trip that will kick off Wednesday in Detroit. While Coach Donovan could not provide clarity on Giddey’s availability for the game against the Pistons, he mentioned that the upcoming three days off could facilitate the player’s recovery.

Giddey’s Season Performance

Giddey has been instrumental to the Bulls’ performance this season, averaging an impressive 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists, shooting 46% overall and 39% from beyond the arc over the first nine games of the season. His absence will be felt as the Bulls aim to continue their good start amid the challenges ahead.
