Buffalo Sabres Update: Greenway Progresses as Team Prepares for Bruins

Buffalo Sabres Recent Performance

The Buffalo Sabres concluded their recent four-game trip out West with a solid performance, coming away with seven points from a possible eight despite suffering a defeat in their final match. Following a brief hiatus, the team took to the ice for an intensive practice session at KeyBank Center, gearing up for the start of their four-game homestand against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. The Bruins are set to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in Boston the night before, making this matchup a challenging second game of back-to-back contests for them.

Coach Lindy Ruff’s Updates

Head coach Lindy Ruff addressed the media after practice, providing updates on the status of forward Jordan Greenway, who has been recovering from an injury. Ruff emphasized the importance of depth in the lineup during this time of year, noting that Greenway’s progress in practice would determine his potential return to the active roster.

“He looked good skating, and we’re going to test him with some physicality to gauge how he’s feeling after some specialized treatment he received out of town,”

Ruff stated.

Comparisons to Past Success

When questioned about the current team’s comparisons to the Sabres of 2006 and 2007, who reached the Eastern Conference finals, Ruff acknowledged the similarities in offensive depth.

“The way our lines are performing now is reminiscent of that past success, with every line contributing significantly. Players like Benson and Carrick are stepping up, much like we had back then.”

Fan Engagement and Team Energy

As the Sabres continue to build momentum, Ruff reflected on the positive reception from fans, citing a recent game where supporters chanted, “Oh Ah, Sabres on the Warpath” during the third period.

“That energy is something special. It’s a reflection of the resilience shown in games like the one against Tampa and the enthusiasm surrounding the team right now. We need to harness this energy while recognizing the work still ahead of us,”

he explained.

Goaltending Strategy

Ruff also discussed the team’s goaltending rotation, which has involved Alex Lyon and UPL performing exceptionally well. He highlighted the difficulty of relying on a single goalie due to the demanding schedule.

“You need an extraordinary goalie to handle 65-70 games, which isn’t common,”

Ruff added, noting that having three capable goalies, including Colton Ellis, has been a fortunate advantage for the Sabres this season.
