Buffalo Sabres Secure Two-Year Deal with Conor Timmins, Former Maple Leafs Defenseman, Just Before Arbitration

Buffalo Sabres Strengthen Roster with Conor Timmins

In a strategic move to strengthen their roster, the Buffalo Sabres have successfully negotiated a two-year contract with defenseman Conor Timmins, thereby sidestepping arbitration proceedings initially set for August 2. This announcement comes shortly after the Sabres acquired Timmins, along with defenseman Isaac Belliveau, from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a second-round draft pick and defenseman Connor Clifton.

Timmins’ Career Highlights

Previously, Timmins, who has battled through a series of injuries throughout his career, had been under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he excelled last season, playing a personal best of 68 games. During that time, he managed to record two goals and six assists over the 51 games he played with Toronto before his transfer to the Penguins as part of a complex three-way deal that included moving defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Maple Leafs.

Now at 26 years old, Timmins has more than doubled his average annual salary from his previous deal with Toronto, moving to an AAV of $2.2 million with the Sabres, up from $1.1 million. As he transitions to Buffalo, he finds himself close to familiar faces from his time in Toronto. In fact, earlier this summer, Timmins attended a Coldplay concert in Toronto with former teammates Bobby McMann and Joseph Woll, sharing the experience on social media, where he humorously referred to the concert venue as the ‘Middle Of Nowhere’.

Timmins’ NHL Experience

Overall, Timmins has appeared in 159 NHL games, with 101 of those with the Maple Leafs, accumulating a total of five goals and 27 assists while averaging just over 16 minutes of ice time per game. As he joins the Sabres, he is expected to fill the role of a third-pair defenseman, allowing him to further develop his skills while contributing to the team’s defensive lineup.
