Transfer to Manchester United
In a significant transfer, Bryan Mbeumo, who recently joined Manchester United from Brentford for a fee reaching £71 million ($94.6 million), has shared that his decision was heavily influenced by discussions with manager Ruben Amorim. Mbeumo, the latest addition to Amorim’s squad, explained that while he explored options with other clubs, including potential offers from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, it was the vision laid out by Amorim that ultimately drew him to Old Trafford.
“I had conversations with several managers to understand their plans, but United’s proposal resonated the most with me,” Mbeumo stated. “It’s an enormous club, and I believe this opportunity is exceptional. I welcome the challenge and find the project at Manchester alluring. Our conversation was very positive; Amorim articulated his ambitions clearly, and we vibe on the same wavelength. He emphasized his desire to build a winning team, which is something we wholeheartedly aspire to achieve.”
Negotiation Challenges
The transfer saga, however, was not without its complications. Reports indicate that Manchester United faced some frustration during negotiations with Brentford, which were prolonged due to the club’s fluctuating valuation of the 25-year-old winger. United officials felt that Brentford was also steering Mbeumo towards their competitors, Newcastle and Spurs, complicating the process further.
Reflecting on the drawn-out negotiations, Mbeumo remarked, “Patience is key, and I remained optimistic throughout the waiting period, especially while I was on holiday. I trusted my representation and was confident everything would work out.”
Settling In
Having arrived just in time for United’s summer tour in the United States, Mbeumo is yet to make his debut for the team. Despite this, he is taking the opportunity to bond with his new teammates, including hoping to challenge fellow player Josh Zirkzee in chess.
“I often play online anonymously against different opponents, but it’s nice to find someone here to play against in person,” he shared.

Mbeumo sees a strong parallel between chess and football strategy.
“Both games require foresight,” he noted. “You must plan your moves ahead in chess, just like in football where strategy plays a crucial role. This mental engagement is important as it fosters creativity, which I genuinely appreciate.”
Exploring Musical Interests
Beyond his football pursuits, Mbeumo has been exploring his musical side, teaching himself to play the piano. He admitted to feeling anxious playing in front of others, stating,
“While I’m accustomed to performing in front of thousands, the piano feels different. It’s a personal escape for me. I enjoy it, but playing for friends still makes me a bit uneasy.”
