Bridgeport Islanders Relocate to Hamilton
In a significant shift within the American Hockey League, the Bridgeport Islanders will be relocating to Hamilton, as confirmed by the AHL’s Board of Governors on Tuesday. This decision, which marks the end of a 25-year chapter for the team in Bridgeport, is expected to provide the New York Islanders with access to a more robust hockey market and state-of-the-art facilities.
New Home at TD Coliseum
The team will be based at the recently renovated TD Coliseum, a modern venue that boasts a capacity of 18,000 fans and has undergone a substantial renovation costing approximately $300 million. Such an upgrade not only enhances the game-day experience but also positions the Isles to better attract top talent, an advantage that Bridgeport struggled to provide.
Playoff Push and Emotional Farewell
The Islanders are currently fighting for a playoff position, holding strong with seven games remaining this season. In light of the announcement, Bridgeport shared a heartfelt message with their fans via a press release, acknowledging the emotional weight of the relocation. The franchise’s leadership sees this transition as a necessary step to invigorate the organization and compete effectively in the AHL.
