Brent Burns Achieves Milestone in NHL
In a notable achievement during the matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators on Tuesday, veteran defenseman Brent Burns, previously with the Minnesota Wild, assisted on Brock Nelson’s goal in the first period. The Predators ultimately triumphed in the game, clinching victory in a shootout.
Historic Accomplishment
This season, Burns, now 40 years old, registered his 11th assist and accumulated a total of 15 points over 30 games played. This milestone makes him only the second defenseman in NHL history, at the age of 40, to accrue at least 15 points within the first 30 games of a season—an accomplishment that harkens back to Nicklas Lidstrom, who notched 26 points in the 2010-11 season and 21 points the following year. To date, no other defenseman has matched this feat.
Brent Burns’ Career Overview
Brent Burns entered the NHL by being selected 20th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2003 draft. Over his seven-season tenure with the Wild, he amassed 183 points, which included 55 goals and 128 assists across 453 games before his trade to the San Jose Sharks.
