Brennan Othmann Demoted to AHL as Coach Highlights Need for Improvement in His Game

Brennan Othmann Reassigned to AHL

Brennan Othmann, a forward for the New York Rangers, has been reassigned to their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, following the team’s recent acquisition of Tye Kartye. This decision comes after Othmann’s recent performance, which has drawn scrutiny from head coach Mike Sullivan.

Concerns Over Readiness

In the match just prior to the Olympic break, Othmann was not included in the lineup, signaling concerns regarding his readiness for the NHL. Sullivan addressed Othmann’s development, stating,

“There are aspects of his game that require further improvement for him to solidify a position in the NHL.”

Inconsistency in Performance

Despite the Rangers aiming to rejuvenate their roster by focusing on younger players, Othmann has not been able to seize this opportunity, returning instead to the AHL due to fluctuations in his performance. Sullivan elaborated on this inconsistency, saying,

“There have been moments where he positively influenced the game, but there have also been times when he fell short. We have emphasized the need for him to maintain attention to detail and deliver a more dependable performance.”

Struggles This Season

In his 17 appearances with the Rangers this season, the 23-year-old has struggled offensively, managing only one goal and one point, while averaging close to ten minutes on the ice per game. As Othmann works to refine his skills in Hartford, the organization remains hopeful that he can address these issues and return stronger.
