Rangers Prepare for Action
As the New York Rangers prepare for their return to action on February 26, amidst the excitement of several players heading to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan—including stars like Mika Zibanejad, J.T. Miller, and Vincent Trocheck—they’re also turning their attention to a promising forward from their AHL affiliate.
Brendan Brisson’s Call-Up
Brendan Brisson, who has been with the Hartford Wolf Pack this season, has been called up for practices with the Rangers, marking his first opportunity to join the Blueshirts after being acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in a significant trade involving Reilly Smith in early March 2025.
“I was pretty excited,”
Brisson shared about the trade and his new team, expressing his enthusiasm for joining a franchise rich in history and passionate supporters.
Performance in the AHL
The young forward, now 24, has played 46 games in the AHL this season, showcasing his skill with 13 goals and 10 assists for a total of 23 points. Reflecting on his time in the minors, he noted:
“I feel good all around, not just offensively,”
highlighting his responsibilities in close matches, which have fortified his overall game.
Brisson is determined to impress during this call-up, even though there are no guarantees he will make it into any of the upcoming NHL games. He acknowledged the potential these practices could hold, stating:
“It’s a chance to come up here and practice and see what happens. It was a fun day today on the ice, so just taking it day by day.”
Aiming for Success
Originally selected by the Golden Knights in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Brisson hopes to transition his first-round pedigree to lasting success in the NHL with the Rangers. Despite having played a limited 24 games in the NHL previously, where he accrued eight points with Vegas, Brisson is still pushing for what he calls the “ultimate goal”—to leave a lasting impression and secure a permanent spot on the team.
With the one-year mark of his joining the Rangers organization approaching, he is eager for the opportunity to make his mark.
Future Prospects
Meanwhile, amid the challenges of the current season, the Rangers are seeing significant progress from another prospect, Gabe Perreault, creating a sense of optimism for the team’s future.
