Brandon Carpico Named ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year

In a remarkable achievement, Brandon Carpico, a redshirt freshman at Ohio State University, has been honored as the ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year for the 2024-25 season, as announced on Tuesday. Hailing from Gahanna, just outside Columbus, Carpico made an immediate impact on the Ohio State tennis team this season.

Impressive Performance and Achievements

With an impressive 36 wins against just 6 losses in doubles play, he led the squad and also secured a total of 49 victories across all competitions, the highest on the team. His accomplishments included a noteworthy run to the finals at the Big Ten Doubles Championship and earlier victories at both the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the Fighting Irish Mini Duals, showcasing his exceptional talent.

Teaming up with fellow player Nikita Filin, Carpico achieved a remarkable 21-4 record during the spring season, which included two ranked wins and an 8-2 record against Big Ten opponents.

Acknowledgment and Academic Excellence

Notably, he is the tenth athlete from the Buckeyes to receive this recognition, marking the first time since JJ Tracy won the award in 2021. Beyond his athletic prowess, Carpico has also shone academically, having earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and being designated as an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete. This dual success on and off the court underscores his well-rounded capabilities as both a student and an athlete.
