Brady Tkachuk Discusses Recovery on Wingmen Podcast
In the inaugural episode of his podcast, Wingmen, hosted alongside his brother Matthew, Brady Tkachuk discussed his recovery process following wrist surgery. The podcast, which debuted on Thursday, featured insights about his current state as he approaches the four-week mark post-surgery. Brady candidly shared,
“I’m in the dog days of being injured right now. It sucks.”
Progress and Optimism
Since the surgery, he has found a silver lining, managing to resume skating just six days after the procedure. Over the past three weeks, Brady has been on the ice three to four times a week, allowing him to maintain his fitness—an advantage that often comes with upper-body injuries.
As the conversation flowed, Matthew expressed optimism about his brother’s return, suggesting Brady could be back on the ice in a few weeks. Brady revealed his eagerness to work with pucks again, delighting in regaining some of his coordination:
“Yeah, I was able to actually stick handle last night in the shooting room, my first time. And the hands felt good too.”
Practice and Future Outlook
On Friday, Brady did join practice, showcasing his progress although not taking full slap shots yet. His activity involved receiving passes and executing wrist shots, indicating that his wrist was holding up well. Coach Green later commented on Brady’s situation, noting he might still be a couple of weeks away from a full return but confirming that he would accompany the team on their upcoming seven-game road trip.
Injury Updates on Teammates
Additionally, in injury news, teammate Thomas Chabot remains day-to-day with an upper-body issue and is unlikely to participate in Saturday’s game. Meanwhile, veteran defenseman Nick Jensen, who has been rehabilitating from hip resurfacing surgery, surprised many by appearing at practice despite having left a recent game due to injury.
Should Jensen be unavailable for the next match, the Senators may consider promoting from their AHL affiliate, Belleville, where former first-round picks like Carter Yakemchuk and Lassi Thomson are available. Yakemchuk, currently the top defenseman for Belleville with an impressive eight points in 13 games, could provide valuable NHL experience at a time when the Sens could afford to explore their roster options. If called upon, it may offer a glimpse into his readiness for the NHL stage amid player injuries on the team.
