Bojan Bogdanovic Announces Retirement Following Injury-Stricken Season

Bojan Bogdanovic Announces Retirement

After a decade-long career in the NBA, Bojan Bogdanovic has officially announced his retirement, a decision that comes on the heels of a series of injuries that impacted his last playing seasons. The 36-year-old forward took to social media on Sunday to share his thoughts, stating,

“Sometimes in life, you don’t choose the moment. The moment chooses you.”

He acknowledged the challenges he faced over the past 14 months, which included two surgeries and extensive rehabilitation efforts due to a persistent foot injury.

Early Career and NBA Journey

Bogdanovic’s basketball journey began in his homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he later represented Croatia on the international stage. He was selected as the 31st overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft but opted to develop his skills in the Euro League until 2014. That year marked his transition to the NBA when he signed with the Brooklyn Nets, the team that retained his draft rights.

His early career saw him play 55 games with the Nets during the 2016-17 season before a trade sent him to the Washington Wizards. Over his career, Bogdanovic showcased his talents with several teams, including the Indiana Pacers from 2017 to 2019, the Utah Jazz from 2019 to 2022, and the Detroit Pistons in the 2022-2024 season. He finished his stint by playing for the New York Knicks in the 2024 season.

Final Seasons and Legacy

Unfortunately, the 2024-25 season was marred by his foot injury, which sidelined him completely. Before he officially retired, the Knicks traded him back to the Nets as part of a multi-player transaction, but they later waived him. In his career, Bogdanovic made 719 regular-season appearances, achieving averages of 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, with an impressive 39.4% success rate from beyond the 3-point line.

Bogdanovic leaves the league not only with impressive statistics but also as a notable figure in his family, as his younger brother, Bogdan Bogdanovic, currently plays for the LA Clippers.
