Carolina Hurricanes Welcome New Minority Stakeholders
In a notable development for the Carolina Hurricanes, a trio of new minority stakeholders has emerged, including former NHL player Bobby Farnham. Farnham, alongside Brett Jefferson and Marc Grandisson, has acquired a minority stake in the franchise, as confirmed in a statement from the team last Friday.
According to recent reports from Sportico, Tom Dundon, the Hurricanes’ owner and CEO, is selling 12.5% of the organization for approximately $332.5 million, based on a valuation of $2.66 billion.
Confidence in New Investors
Dundon expressed confidence in the new investors, highlighting their professional backgrounds and how they will contribute to the team’s future.
“Brett, Marc, and Bobby are accomplished executives whose experience will help us grow,”
Dundon remarked. He noted the local ties of Jefferson and Grandisson, with Jefferson currently residing nearby and Grandisson planning to move to Raleigh. Farnham’s unique insights, stemming from his experience as an NHL player, were also mentioned as a valuable asset to the organization going forward.
Bobby Farnham’s NHL Career
Bobby Farnham made his mark in the NHL over four seasons, starting off with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played for the Penguins during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons before joining the New Jersey Devils, where he appeared in 50 games, scoring 10 points (eight goals and two assists). His career concluded with the Montreal Canadiens. Across his tenure in the league, Farnham participated in 67 games, accumulating all of his points while with the Devils. Now, at age 37, he is making a return to the professional hockey landscape in a business role after transitioning from his playing days.
