Chicago Blackhawks Season Finale Victory
In their season finale, the Chicago Blackhawks emerged victorious against the San Jose Sharks, clinching a 5-2 win Wednesday night at home. Notably, defenseman Louis Crevier had a standout performance, netting two crucial goals during the final period, marking the first multi-goal game of his professional career.
Game Highlights
Chicago faced an early setback when Mario Ferraro of San Jose opened the scoring with a wrist shot that redirected off the skate of Chicago’s Ethan Del Mastro just over eight minutes into the first period. Momentum shifted slightly when Michael Misa doubled the Sharks’ lead to 2-0, with a close-range shot that found its way past goaltender Spencer Knight after also making contact with Del Mastro’s stick.
The Blackhawks, struggling in the latter part of the season with only four wins in their last 15 games, found their footing late. They cut the deficit just before the second intermission when Sam Rinzel capitalized with a shot from the left wing, narrowing the score to 2-1. In an earlier moment, Chicago’s Ilya Mikheyev had a penalty shot opportunity but was denied.
Third Period Comeback
In the third period, the Blackhawks shifted gears significantly. Just under four minutes in, Crevier leveled the game at two apiece after skillfully converting a backhand pass from promising rookie Connor Bedard. Moments later, Ryan Greene added to the score with his twelfth goal of the season, beating Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from the slot. Crevier sealed Chicago’s comeback by blasting a 60-foot slapshot into the net, solidifying the Blackhawks’ lead.
Nick Lardis, assisted by Bedard, tallied an additional goal, broadening the gap to 5-2. Despite finishing with 72 points, a notable increase of 11 points from the previous season, the Blackhawks had mixed results, ending with just three wins in their last 11 home games.
Looking Ahead
Meanwhile, San Jose has also seen improvement, finishing 32 points ahead of last season’s performance with one game still on their schedule. In a significant pre-game announcement, Chicago extended general manager Kyle Davidson’s contract, as he wraps up his fourth consecutive year in the role.
The Sharks will conclude their season with a matchup against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
