Bivol’s Manager Responds to Beterbiev’s Claims, Affirms Plans for Trilogy Fight

Exclusive Interview with Vadim Kornilov

In an exclusive interview with World Boxing News, Vadim Kornilov, the manager of light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, addressed recent claims by Artur Beterbiev regarding their potential third bout. Following two grueling matches over the past ten months, where Bivol claimed victory in their rematch, Beterbiev hinted that Bivol was avoiding a trilogy, suggesting he was ‘running’ from the fight.

Kornilov firmly rebuffed these allegations, asserting, “There is no justification for such a claim, and I firmly believe the third match will take place just like the first two.”

Recovery and Future Matchups

Kornilov’s comments reflect confidence that Bivol is not dodging Beterbiev but rather taking a necessary breather. After an intense schedule of four major bouts in under a year, Bivol is simply prioritizing recovery following a recent surgery. Meanwhile, Beterbiev is staying active as he prepares for an upcoming fight against Demond Nicholson, set to share the card with David Benavidez.

Kornilov noted that this strategy of allowing Beterbiev to fight Nicholson rather than Benavidez is wise for building toward future matchups. “From what I understand, this serves as a lead-up to bigger fights ahead, which is a business-savvy move,” Kornilov explained.

Concerns and Anticipation

On the subject of Beterbiev needing a potentially easier fight after their taxing encounters, Kornilov remarked on the unpredictability of the sport at this level.

“Every opponent at this caliber presents a risk, and I don’t think age is a decisive factor in judging their ability,” he stated.

As Beterbiev approaches the age of 41, concerns about his performance and the potential impact on the trilogy have arisen. Kornilov, however, believes that these factors will not detract from the excitement of the matchup, and he stressed that Bivol has not been avoiding Beterbiev but rather is strategizing for his career after his intense schedule.

Looking Ahead

With Bivol firmly established as the leading figure in the light heavyweight division and Beterbiev refusing to back down, the anticipation for a third bout remains high. Meanwhile, David Benavidez may find himself waiting longer for his shot unless Bivol chooses to extend his hiatus until mid-2026.
