Birmingham City Football Club announced ambitious plans for a new stadium set to hold 62,000 spectators, a venture that could cost upwards of £2.5 billion (approximately $3.2 billion). On Thursday, club officials emphasized that this project, named the Birmingham City Powerhouse Stadium, represents a significant advancement not just for the football team, currently competing in the Championship, but also for the city of Birmingham itself.

Among the team’s notable stakeholders is NFL star Tom Brady, who, along with chairman Tom Wagner, hopes that the new stadium will serve as a centerpiece for the community, enhancing Birmingham’s profile on an international level. Designed by Heatherwick Studio in partnership with Manica Architecture, the stadium will feature distinctive elements such as 12 towering chimneys, reflecting a modern architectural approach. The completion date is targeted for the 2030-31 season.

Wagner revealed that the estimated cost for the stadium itself would be around £1.2 billion ($1.5 billion), with additional funds earmarked for essential infrastructure improvements to support this major undertaking.

A promotional video that accompanied the announcement featured Tom Brady as well as former Birmingham City player and current Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham. Bellingham, who reacted enthusiastically when shown designs of the stadium, exclaimed:
