Sevilla’s Praise for Maresca
Maresca, who enjoyed a successful four-year stint at Sevilla, received praise from the club on the social media platform X, congratulating him on securing his first European title as a coach. During his playing career, he made over 100 appearances for Sevilla and was instrumental in their triumphs in two UEFA Cup tournaments. The Sevilla club, renowned for holding the record with seven victories in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, expressed their admiration for Maresca’s achievement.
Betis President Responds
In response to Sevilla’s public acknowledgment, Betis president Angel Haro pointed out the contrasting situations of the two clubs this season. Haro noted that while Betis impressively finished LaLiga in sixth place, Sevilla just managed to avoid relegation, ending the season just one position and a single point above the danger zone.
“I haven’t seen the post, but they seem to be engaged in a different struggle now,” Haro remarked after the game. “Our focus is on growth and preparing for a better performance next year, while they are involved in a very different conflict compared to ours.”
When questioned if he would have extended similar congratulations, Haro cheekily commented,
“If it were up to me … well, let’s just say I do acknowledge Sevilla for staying in the top division this year.”
