Bernardo Silva Named Captain of Manchester City
In a recent statement, Bernardo Silva reflected on his new role as the captain of Manchester City, calling it “one of the biggest honours” in his football journey. This announcement comes after Pep Guardiola, the team’s manager, opted to select the captain himself for the first time. Guardiola’s choice was influenced by his dissatisfaction with aspects of the team’s leadership during the previous season.
Silva’s Journey and Leadership Philosophy
The Portugal international will embark on his ninth season with City, and he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team.

Transition of Leadership
Silva succeeds Kyle Walker as captain. Walker departed on loan to AC Milan in January, and even though Milan chose not to sign him permanently, Guardiola has decided to leave him out of the squad for the upcoming Club World Cup. Alongside Silva, Guardiola has assigned leadership responsibilities to players such as Rodri, Rúben Dias, and Erling Haaland, with the potential for additional members to join this leadership group ahead of the August Premier League kick-off.

In his new position, Silva acknowledged his need for support from his teammates:
“I’m counting on Ruben, on Rodri, on Erling, on all the guys to help me,”
