Berkly Catton Powers Kraken to 4-3 Shootout Win Over Golden Knights, Ending Six-Game Slide

Seattle Kraken Break Losing Streak

In a thrilling matchup on Thursday evening, the Seattle Kraken snapped their disappointing six-game losing streak by securing a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, thanks to a standout performance from Berkly Catton. Catton, who found the net in the third period, later sealed the game in a shootout, marking a crucial victory as the Kraken look to regain their footing after a series of tough games. With this win, Seattle improved its record to 33-34-11, having only managed two victories in their last dozen outings.

Game Highlights

The Golden Knights, who entered the game riding a four-game winning streak under new coach John Tortorella, initially took control when Mark Stone opened the scoring at 10:04 of the first period. Stone notched his 26th goal of the season shortly into the second period, converting a power play just 55 seconds in. Vegas extended their lead to 3-1 early in the third, with Brett Howden scoring just 1:11 into the frame.

However, the Kraken fought back, finding their first goal late in the second period from Jared McCann, which was significant as it ended a troubling run of 0-for-17 on power plays that had lingered since March 21. Not only did this goal mark McCann’s 20th of the season, but it also highlighted his consistent scoring capability, achieving this milestone for the fifth consecutive season with Seattle.

Catton’s early third-period goal reduced the deficit to one, and Bobby McMann soon followed up with his 28th goal, equalizing the game for the Kraken. On the defensive end, goalie Joey Daccord was impressive, turning away 31 shots to help secure the win. In an emergency roster move, the Kraken had called up goalie Nikke Kokko from the Coachella Valley Firebirds, replacing Matt Murray, who was absent due to a family matter.

Organizational Changes

In a separate development, the organization had recently announced the mutual parting of ways with president of hockey operations Ron Francis, an issue that CEO Tod Leiweke addressed in the lead-up to the game.

Upcoming Matches

As for their next challenges, the Golden Knights are set to face the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, while the Kraken have a home game against the Calgary Flames later that evening.
