NBA Trade Shake-Up
In a significant shake-up in the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers bolstered their roster by acquiring Bennedict Mathurin from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Ivica Zubac. This transaction, reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, also involves the Clippers receiving Isaiah Jackson along with two first-round draft selections and a second-round pick.
Bennedict Mathurin’s Career Move
Mathurin’s trade marks a pivotal moment in his career as he has been averaging commendable stats this season, notably 17.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game at just 23 years of age. He had previously spent four seasons with the Pacers, who are reeling in the league after reaching the NBA Finals a year prior but now find themselves among the teams at the bottom of the standings.
Clippers’ New Direction
Joining the Clippers positions Mathurin on a squad that has recently undergone changes, including the departure of star player James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers in return for Darius Garland. This move is aimed at pushing the Clippers, currently positioned ninth in the Western Conference, towards playoff contention.
Other Trades on the Day
Adding to the day’s flurry of trades, Mathurin’s former collegiate teammate, Dalen Terry, also found a new home, being sent to the New Orleans Pelicans. This occurred shortly after the Chicago Bulls traded him to the New York Knicks. The Pelicans traded Jose Alvarado, along with two second-round picks, to secure Terry, who like Mathurin, is in the final season of his rookie contract and is expected to see increased playing time in New Orleans compared to his role in Chicago.
