Emotional Moment at Wimbledon
In an inspiring moment at Wimbledon, American tennis player Ben Shelton made an emotional request for his sister to receive additional leave from her role at Morgan Stanley so she could continue supporting him during the prestigious tournament. After earning a spot in the fourth round, Shelton, 22, took to the court for a post-match interview which was broadcasted to a lively audience, including his sister, Emma, and acclaimed soccer player Trinity Rodman, who is also his girlfriend.
Support System
During the interview, Shelton reflected on his successful week, stating,
“I’ve been playing well. It’s not just me—I have an amazing support system here. My parents are in attendance, my girlfriend is here, and my sister has supported me throughout every match. She’s my lucky charm.”
However, he revealed that Emma would need to return to the United States for work starting Monday. In an attempt to keep her around, Shelton candidly remarked,
“If anyone has connections to help her secure a few more days off, that would be awesome,”
eliciting light-hearted boos from the crowd as Emma, overwhelmed, shielded her face with her hands.
Match Highlights
Shelton showcased his skills on the court by defeating Marton Fucsovics, a Hungarian competitor, with a score of 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2. Following the match, reports indicated that his request may have resonated positively, as hours later, Emma shared a jubilant video on Instagram in which Ben asked if she managed to get the week off. In the clip, she enthusiastically celebrates her newfound flexibility, prompting Ben to shout,
“Shoutout, Morgan Stanley!”
Alongside the video, her caption expressed gratitude to the bank for allowing her to stay, as she humorously noted that her travel plans had been altered.
Continued Success
Shelton’s stellar performance continues a strong trajectory, as he impressively won all nine sets he played in the first week at the All England Club. He is also noted for his prior success at the Australian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals earlier this year, defeating the same player he will face next, Lorenzo Sonego from Italy.
