Manchester United’s Coach Ruben Amorim Gains Player Support
Following a challenging beginning to his tenure, Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim has not lost the faith of his players, according to midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Since stepping in for Erik ten Hag last November, Amorim has led the team to just seven victories in the Premier League, resulting in the club’s disappointing 15th-place finish — its worst in over half a century.
Ugarte’s Confidence in Amorim
As Amorim gears up for his first complete season in charge, Ugarte, who previously played under him at Sporting CP, expressed strong support:
“We need to work on improving our performance. The team is fully motivated because we trust the coach and his vision, which is crucial for our progress.”
Ugarte’s Journey at Manchester United
Ugarte is entering his second year at Manchester United after transferring from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He faced challenges adapting to the pace of English football and experienced a drop in form, which led to his unexpected exclusion in the Europa League final against Tottenham in Bilbao. However, Amorim has noted a shift in Ugarte’s demeanor this summer, with the midfielder showcasing his confidence in a recent 2-1 victory against West Ham in New Jersey.
“Last season was a period of adjustment for us, including changes in coaching and tactics,” Ugarte remarked. “This year, I’m feeling good and energized about the upcoming challenges. Playing for United comes with responsibilities, and I’m happy to tackle those head-on. Familiarity with the league and other teams will certainly help as well.”
Future Prospects for United’s Midfield
In addition to Ugarte’s development, there’s speculation that United might pursue another defensive midfielder to bolster competition with Ugarte and Casemiro. Young talent Toby Collyer has also announced he is open to a loan move to gain more playing time, having made 13 appearances last season. Collyer stated,
“I’m eager to play as much as I can, and I’ll discuss with the manager to determine the best path forward. My goal is to earn consistent starts here at United.”
