CJ Fulton Invited to Denver Nuggets Pre-Draft Workout
Belfast native CJ Fulton, a standout guard for the Charleston Cougars, has recently received an invitation to participate in another pre-draft workout, this time with the Denver Nuggets. The 22-year-old athlete aims to become the third player from Ireland to make it to the NBA, following Pat Burke and Susan Moran.
Burke played for iconic teams such as the Orlando Magic and the Phoenix Suns from 2002 to 2007, while Moran was with the New York Liberty during the 2002 WNBA season.
Fulton’s Path to the NBA
Prior to this opportunity with the Nuggets, Fulton attended a workout for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is gearing up to showcase his skills to multiple coaches ahead of the NBA draft scheduled for June 25-26.
Fulton’s journey in basketball has been remarkable, beginning with his time at St. Malachy’s College and the Belfast Star, where he helped clinch the Basketball Ireland Super League title in 2020, marking a significant victory for the team after 21 years.
College Career and Achievements
His basketball career took an international turn when he moved to Winchendon School in Boston, which led to a scholarship at Lafayette University in Pennsylvania. After transferring to Charleston Cougars, Fulton made a name for himself by participating in the ‘March Madness‘ tournament in 2024, following his team’s conquest of the CAA Conference Tournament.
Looking Ahead
The Minnesota Timberwolves, who play in the Western Conference, have made it to the finals for the last two seasons but fell short against the Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team features rising star Anthony Edwards, the first overall pick in the 2020 draft.
Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets, helmed by three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, secured the NBA championship in 2023 but faced setbacks in the Western Conference semi-finals in the subsequent two seasons.
