In a remarkable display of teamwork and talent, the No. 18 ranked Baylor Lady Bears triumphed over BYU with a final score of 69-58 during Saturday’s matchup in Provo, Utah. Leading the charge for Baylor was Taliah Scott, who contributed an impressive 25 points. Bella Fontleroy also made significant contributions with 12 points of her own.

This victory marks Baylor’s sixth consecutive win, enhancing their record to 17-3 overall and 6-1 within the Big 12 conference. The Lady Bears have not tasted defeat since a loss to the now No. 17 Texas Tech on December 21. Demonstrating their dominance, Baylor started the game with an explosive 18-4 run and never looked back, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout much of the first half.

While BYU managed to narrow the gap to just three points in the second half, Baylor’s solid performance, particularly in the fourth quarter where Scott scored 12 points – including a crucial streak of seven consecutive points – secured their victory.

Player Performances

Scott’s overall contribution included shooting 8-for-21 from the field, with a commendable 5-for-14 from three-point range, alongside six rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Darianna Littlepage-Buggs contributed nine rebounds for Baylor. Despite Baylor’s resilience, they were narrowly edged out in rebounding by BYU, which finished with 40 compared to Baylor’s 39. The Lady Bears showcased efficient ball movement, with 15 of their 25 baskets resulting from assists.

Delaney Gibb led the Cougars (14-4, 3-3) with 20 points but faced challenges in her shooting performance, going 7-for-21 before fouling out towards the end of the game. As a team, BYU struggled offensively, shooting only 32% from the field and a mere 17% from long range. Lara Rohkohl was the standout on the boards for BYU, finishing with a game-high total of 10 rebounds.
