NCAA Tournament Insights
In the latest NCAA Tournament action, Charles Barkley and Dick Vitale lent their expertise to truTV’s coverage of the First Four matchup on Tuesday. As NC State prepared to face off against Texas, Barkley took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the tournament alongside fellow analysts Jalen Rose, Bruce Pearl, and Jamal Mashburn.
Predictions and Concerns
During the conversation, Barkley was prompted to discuss his predictions for March Madness, which quickly turned into an animated discourse. He declared,
“This is the Arizona ass-kicking Invitational, and we are ready for anything that comes our way!”
Barkley acknowledged Michigan’s strong roster and expressed admiration for their coach, Dusty May, though he voiced concerns about the impact of player LJ Cason’s injury on their performance. He also suggested that injuries might hinder Duke’s chances.
Seeding Controversies
The debate then shifted to seeding controversies. Barkley remarked,
“I think St. John’s got a raw deal with their placement in the bracket. And there’s no denying Miami Ohio was also overlooked; they should have a higher seed. Finishing the season 31-0 should mean something. I understand not everyone agrees with me, especially my guy Bruce Pearl, but strength of schedule shouldn’t eclipse their achievements. They didn’t create the difficulties of their conference—they played it out to perfection. They deserve a spot among the top teams, and from my perspective, I’m typically an Auburn supporter, but right now, I’m pulling for Miami Ohio to advance in this tournament.”
Upcoming Matchup
Miami Ohio is set to compete in the First Four on Wednesday against SMU, making them a critical team to watch in this year’s tournament.
