Barcelona Women Part Ways with Rolfö and Roebuck Ahead of Schedule

FC Barcelona Announces Contract Terminations

FC Barcelona has confirmed the early termination of contracts for two players, Fridolina Rolfö and Ellie Roebuck, allowing them to explore new opportunities ahead of the upcoming season. Both players originally had agreements with the club that extended until 2026, but the club announced on Monday that they have mutually agreed to part ways earlier than planned.

Fridolina Rolfö’s Impact at Barcelona

Rolfö, a 31-year-old forward from Sweden, has been a pivotal figure in Barcelona’s recent successes since her move from Wolfsburg. Over her four-year spell with the club, she has amassed an impressive collection of 13 trophies, including four Liga F championships and two UEFA Champions League titles. With 129 appearances to her name, her versatility allowed her to transition from winger to left-back, during which she scored 38 goals and assisted 37 times. Currently, she is representing Sweden at the European Championships in Switzerland, gearing up for a crucial Group C match against Poland.

Ellie Roebuck’s Journey

On the other hand, Ellie Roebuck, a goalkeeper from England, is reportedly set to join Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League following her departure from Barcelona. The 25-year-old, who joined Barça from Manchester City just a year ago, faced challenges during her time at the club, making only two appearances due to recovery from a stroke. Roebuck eventually made her debut in December against Real Betis and had another outing earlier this year in a surprising defeat to Levante.

Reflections on a Meaningful Tenure

Taking to social media, Roebuck reflected on her brief yet impactful tenure at Barcelona, expressing gratitude for the experiences she had while donning the club’s jersey. “My time as a player for this incredible club has come to an end. It’s hard to put into words just how special this past year has been, one of the most meaningful of my career, for lots of reasons. Wearing this shirt, walking out at the Johan Cruyff stadium, feeling the support of the fans… it’s something I’ll carry with me forever.”
