ATP Finals Confirmed in Turin Until 2026 Amid Future Concerns

The ATP Finals in Turin

The ATP Finals, a prestigious event on the men’s tennis circuit, will continue to be hosted in Turin until at least 2026, as confirmed by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation on Thursday. This announcement comes amid uncertainties surrounding the competition’s future location, which could hinge on political challenges affecting the federation’s governance over the tournament.

Future of the Tournament

In a previous statement made last November, ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi indicated that the partnership with the Italian federation had been prolonged through 2030. However, he did not clarify whether the tournament would remain in its current setting of Turin or relocate to Milan, which is developing a new arena intended for ice hockey in preparation for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

Concerns from the Italian Federation

Italian federation president Angelo Binaghi emphasized that the event is guaranteed to occur in Turin for the next two years, specifically in November of this year and again in 2026. Yet, he highlighted a critical concern regarding a forthcoming government decree that may limit the federation’s authority in organizing the finals. This situation could potentially lead to the ATP contemplating other venues.

Reflections on Italian Tennis

Reflecting on the current state of Italian tennis, Binaghi expressed dismay over these developments occurring during a time of significant national pride, particularly after Jannik Sinner made history as the first Italian to secure a Wimbledon singles title last Sunday.

“We will exhaust all efforts to retain the tournament here in Turin,”

he stated firmly.

History of the ATP Finals

The ATP Finals have been hosted in Turin since 2021, following a substantial 12-year period in London. Last year, Sinner also triumphed in the ATP Finals, marking a high point in the competition’s recent history in Italy.
