Arsenal’s Thomas Partey Set to Depart as Contract Expires

Thomas Partey Set to Leave Arsenal

Thomas Partey is set to part ways with Arsenal as his contract comes to an end on Monday. The club is expected to announce his departure next week, confirming his exit from the Emirates Stadium. Although discussions about extending his tenure had taken place, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement regarding the terms of a new deal. The direction of these negotiations has been increasingly evident over the past few weeks.

Contract Renewal Talks

Reports in April indicated that the midfielder had been engaged in talks about a contract renewal, allowing him to explore opportunities with international teams since January. Throughout the 2024-25 season, the 32-year-old played a pivotal role in manager Mikel Arteta‘s plans, making a total of 52 appearances across various competitions.

Arsenal’s Midfield Reinforcements

In response to his impending departure, Arsenal is actively strengthening their midfield. A transfer for Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad is reportedly close to completion, with the Spanish club expressing a preference for finalizing the transaction at the beginning of July for financial reasons. Additionally, Arsenal is nearing a deal with Brentford to secure Christian Norgaard, further bolstering their squad.

Partey’s Career Overview

Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 after his release clause of €50 million (approximately £42.7 million or $57.3 million) was activated. Since then, he has made a total of 167 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. Prior to his move, he spent a decade at Atletico Madrid, where he emerged from the academy, making 188 first-team appearances, netting 16 goals, and securing the Europa League title in 2018 while finishing as a Champions League runner-up in 2016.

Other Developments

In another development this summer, Jorginho, who also had a contract expiration, recently joined Flamengo before the Club World Cup.
